How is LARC unique?
LARC offers a low cost residence ($100 per wk) for women in recovery for up to two years -- an unprecedented duration -- especially in LA. All residents receive the benefit of a designated Recovery Coach for their entire length of stay.
Additionally, LARC provides supportive services for our residents and greater community who are in recovery from SUD.
What problem does LARC help to solve?
LARC's model was conceived to help solve the current substance use epidemic as well as provide a creative solution in addressing LA’s homeless crisis.
Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and high housing costs are two root causes of homelessness in LA. SUD is a chronic condition requiring ongoing support and stability to maintain effective recovery. Completing a treatment program is a critical step, but often services end prematurely due to government and insurance company regulations set without consideration for an individual’s needs. This gap in care puts the onus on the individual to secure stable housing which is essential for maintaining sobriety.
For those emerging from SUD treatment, the high cost of housing in LA is a formidable barrier. Having been out of the workforce due to SUD or incarceration, individuals generally must work low-wage jobs while they rebuild their lives. The median rent in LA far exceeds what these jobs pay. This lack of affordable housing, compounded by insufficient supportive services, undermines recovery efforts and perpetuates the SUD epidemic as well as the homeless crisis.
Since the inception of our Housing Program in January 2023, LARC has yielded two alumni who maintain their recovery today. And we're just getting started...
